Our History
ATEK Medical was founded as DLP in 1979. DLP was a vertically integrated OEM and a leading cannula supplier, sold to Medtronic in 1994. In 2003, ATEK acquired the Michigan facility, its manufacturing assets, and hired more than 200 cross-trained and talented employees. ATEK Medical became the largest supplier for Medtronic’s Cardiac Surgery Division in 2003 and, in that same year, won its Supplier of the Year Award. We are now known as ATEK Medical and are a certified woman-owned company. ATEK Medical is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with our main facility located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. ATEK Medical is excited to be able to offer manufacturing at our newly acquired facility in Heredia, Costa Rica. ATEK Medical’s business development team also maintains offices on each coast.
ATEK Medical applies LEAN and SCOR® principles by implementing value stream teams. These teams consist of each functional discipline required to make all decisions at the production level for quality, engineering, and operations. The value stream team provides extensive product launch, post launch, and sustained production support using lean manufacturing, risk management, and statistical techniques to implement, monitor, and assess products and processes for required reliability and improvement opportunities. ATEK Medical’s team consists of experts in packaging, supply chain, quality, operations and plant management, regulation requirements, new product launch, line transfers, and design for manufacturing.
